Myles' Pizza customer shares story behind the final order October 03 2016

BGSU's football program has spoiled us in recent years with MAC Championships. After a 20-year drought, the Falcons won two conference titles in the previous three seasons.

To be fair, it wasn't the first time Bowling Green had to fight through a MAC football funk. Entering the 1982 football season, the Falcons endured 17 years without a conference championship. Bob Gibson won the MAC in 1965. However, Denny Stolz and his '82 squad set out to bring the MAC title back to BGSU.

One of his leaders that season was offensive tackle Vic Cales. The big guy loved football and his faith. As it turned out, Stolz, Cales and the Falcons won their final three conference games highlighted by a win over Eastern Michigan to secure BGSU's seventh MAC Championship.

Fast forward 34 years to early-October 2016, and Cales' daughter Bekah became a Bowling Green pop culture icon and her dad's hero with one kind gesture.

"My friend Jazzi Weber and I were going to surprise my dad, a former BGSU offensive tackle, with his last Myles pizza," Bekah said. "We tried to go (Sunday night), but they closed early. So we got there at 10:30 a.m. today and risked the wait!"

Bekah captured the final line outside of Myles' on her camera.

So, what was so important about traveling an hour from Wauseon, Ohio to Bowling Green to order one last pie?

"My dad is a pastor now. So, he would often do chapels for the BG football team, bringing us to the games," Bekah said. "We would often come to BG to go to football and hockey games and would stop by Myles whenever we came into town. In fact, my dad even has Myles on his phone favorites."

Jazzi and Bekah finally made their way into the iconic pub and placed what would become thee final order. After 39 years, the duo were the last Myles' Pizza customers. Bekah snapped a photo with the legend himself.

"When we brought it home to my dad, he said it tasted as good as the championship in 1982."

Calling All Falcons 1980-1999! We want YOUR BG Memories pictures! October 02 2015

Hi BG Warriors!

Here's the deal, over the past year BG Memories has learned a lot about our fellow Falcons. One big thing is most who follow our Facebook page and reach out to us on social media and via email for the latest BGSU news, information and trips down memory lane attended school before the two of us reached campus. Aside from BG News, all the BG Memories we want to celebrate with you in our one-of-a-kind designs are a challenge without some visual aids.

So, we're asking you to send in any BGSU on-campus and/or Bowling Green, Ohio images from your time on campus. You can send the photos to bgmemories@outlook.com and we'll do our best to work them into a design. One catch is up until now, our beloved old BG logo - referred to as the LT design - remains unavailable to us for design use. We're still working to change that - hopefully soon. In the meantime, we believe off campus parties and BG nightlife themed pictures would be a great resource for us to continue to keep the BG Memories flowing.

Thank you!

Oh and to inspire you to dig up those picture. Here's our first batch of BG Memories!

Former Falcon baseball player Reimold finishing season strong with Orioles September 29 2015

Great feature story on former BGSU Falcons baseball player and current Baltimore Orioles leadoff hitter Nolan Reimold and his family. You may remember his brother, John, played basketball at BGSU, too.

--------

Get to know Nolan Reimold, All-Star dad
By Josh Sadlock

For Jacksonville, Florida mother of six Jenny Reimold, the alarm clock announces the beginning of every new day at 5:15. She takes some time to prepare herself for the day spent shuttling Grace, Jack, Emma, Mary Clare, Maggie, and Charlotte around in her 12-passenger van. Then, it’s off to school, baseball, cheerleading, and gymnastics with the marathon day typically coming to a close after the clock strikes ten o’clock. If that sounds like a typical day for a mother of six, it is. Having a large family creates a busy life. Having a husband who plays professional baseball creates a busier life.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, Jenny Reimold is the wife of Baltimore Orioles’ outfielder Nolan Reimold.

“We had to break down and buy the 12-passenger van,” Jenny explained. “At first, Nolan was really against it [the van], but now he says he will not drive it, but he will ride in it. It is really odd for us pulling into a player parking lot full of Mercedes and sports cars when you’re driving a mini bus full of kids.”

Every four to six weeks, Jenny points her van north to Baltimore, but with six kids, and three in school, it has become increasingly difficult to make the long journey to watch dad do his job at Camden Yards.

“It’s difficult on all of us. My girls want to see their dad. Nolan misses out on the first day of school, ballet recitals, and all those things a dad would want to see. We’re all looking forward to him coming home.”

The Reimolds added to their family this July, and Nolan was able to make the trip home to be with his wife and family for Charlotte’s birth, but only three days later, it was back to work. Pregnancies are a challenging time, but the challenges become even greater when dad’s job takes him away from home for eight straight months.

“It’s really tough physically when he is gone. He left in February, and I couldn’t travel after seven months. Towards the end of pregnancy, you’re tired, your body hurts, and you’ve got the rest of the children that need to be taken care of. I try to keep everything in perspective though. We live in a military town so we know many friends who are deployed for over a year and don’t get to see their families at all. We are fortunate that we can visit when we can get to Nolan.”

22 Things To Cross Off Your BGSU Bucket List (Odyssey) September 29 2015

Bowling Green senior and contributor to The Odyssey, Alex Traczyk created a great BGSU bucket list. I'm just curious how many of you checked most of these off their lists when they were on campus - what would you add to her list?

1. Order a full order of Pollyeyes breadsticks.

You won't regret it.

2. Spend a full day at the Quarry.

There are many fun activities you can do all day.

3. Go for a grilled cheese after midnight at the Corner Grill.

It will be the best grilled cheese you've ever had.

4. Do Movie Day Tuesday at the theater for $3.

A movie for $3? Why not!?

5. Run through the fountains outside of the Administration building.

It is more fun that it sounds.

6. Hang out at the Doyt, our open football stadium.

It is a great place to get away from everyone.

7. Star gaze at the 50 yard line.

You'll never see the stars more clear in BG.

8. Go to each one of BGSU's sporting events.

There may be sports you didn't know you liked.

9. Try Disc golfing or "frolfing".

It's something different and crazy fun.
